Stålproducenterna om elen: Känsliga för energiförändringar
Steel producers SSAB and Outokumpu have highlighted the importance of energy supply and electricity prices in their Q2 2025 reports. SSAB reported delays in its fossil-free steel production due to issues with the electricity grid infrastructure and access to cheap, fossil-free electricity. The company's transformation of its Luleå steel mill to reduce carbon emissions has been delayed by a year, from the end of 2028 to the end of 2029, due to delays in the reinforcement of the electricity grid. Meanwhile, Outokumpu noted that the company is significantly affected by electricity price volatility, largely due to geopolitical risks. The company stated that two-thirds of its energy consumption is hedged against electricity price fluctuations, and it is using energy-efficient measures to mitigate price spikes.
