Trade policy - free and fair trade
We work to achieve:
- global market access for the steel industry’s products
- the removal of trade barriers to the steel industry’s products and raw materials
- the promotion of competitive neutrality, e.g. through removing distorting subsidies
Steel is one of Sweden’s most significant export products. The steel produced in Sweden mainly goes to export markets. Through focusing on niche products the Swedish steel industry has been able to conquer very large shares of the world market within selected product areas. It is, therefore, essential for the Swedish steel industry that trade is both free and fair so that Swedish steel can be sold around the world without encountering different forms of obstacles to trade.
Swedish steel production is unique in the world with its high share of special steels (so-called alloy steels). It is therefore important that access to raw materials such as alloy substances, iron ore and coke is not limited by trade barriers.
As a result of working to achieve freer and fairer trade the conditions are created for increased revenues and reduced costs in the Swedish steel industry.
