Environment Council

The Environment Council’s area of responsibility covers process-related issues that relate to the external environment, e.g. discharges to air/water/land, waste and by-products as well as knowledge about chemical products.

The Council works to

  • influence environment-related legislation and environmental taxes and charges both at the national level and within the EU
  • limit discharges of key substances and increase knowledge about the bioavailability of metals and organic substances as well as toxicity in the ecosystem
  • ensure the industry has proper knowledge of permitted emission levels, waste and by-product amounts
  • increase knowledge of the impact of raw materials and chemicals on human health and the natural environment
  • reduce waste volumes through increased use of residual products and by maximising their sale prospects
  • achieve future environmentally sensitive landfill
  • bring about satisfactory and businesslike relations with national and ‘standard-forming’ environmental bodies
  • carry out the diffusion of information and building of networks
