Search functions
All information in the database is in Swedish. There are two ways of searching in the picture archive:
In the case of a keyword search one or several words are keyed in and the search produces all the images that match the words.
With an advanced search, it is possible to search in accordance with certain criteria, such as time period, locality (by typing a place in Sweden), Swedish province, artist or photographer (by typing a name) and subject category.

If you then click any of the search hits, a larger size low-resolution version (72 dpi) is shown as well as information on the picture and who is the creator. In this window there is also the option of downloading a larger version of the image (300 dpi, best suited for printing). The large images are as a rule between 1–7 Mb in size, but even larger ones are available; this means that it can take a long time to download them.
About the images
The picture archive at present contains about 2000 images, both old and new, but the number will gradually increase as we add Jernkontoret’s historical metallurgy picture collections. All the images are in jpg format and are not retouched or wholly colour balanced.
The images depict a moment of reality during the year indicated by the accompanying picture caption. For this reason, company names appear which, owing to the industry’s restructuring processes, no longer exist. Products, processes, persons, premises etc. may also have changed.
If up-to-date pictures are required we would refer you to the information departments of the relevant companies.
Conditions of use
There are no restrictions on downloading and using the images in the image bank. If the picture is be used for advertising or marketing purposes, however, permission is required from Jernkontoret. The images may not be used in contravention of good practice. The pictures may not be distorted or resold.
The image rights belong to Jernkontoret and the respective photographer/artist.
The source shall be disclosed i.e. name of the photographer/artist and Jernkontoret.
