Our prioritised issues
Jernkontoret represents the Swedish steel industry on issues that concern:
- trade policy
energy and environment - research and education
- standardisation
- taxes and duties
We lead the joint Nordic steel research. In addition, we draw up industry statistics and carry on metallurgical history research.
However, we do not represent the industry’s interests in the employment area.
Steel companies are part of the engine of the national economy and their products comprise an important component of Sweden’s export. These circumstances cannot be taken for granted, however, but presuppose that companies are enabled to compete in the face of the international competition. In this case there is a requirement for the following:
- stable regulations in the energy area
- simplified taxation and levy systems that prevent duplicated steering tools
- a well-developed and functioning infrastructure (also power grid)
- simplified handling of environmental issues
- investments in industrial research institutes
- specialised education and training that meets the needs of the steel industry
- increased public knowledge about steel and the steel industry
All these are necessary steps that strengthen competitiveness and enable the steel industry in Sweden to continue to grow.
On these pages we present those areas that are crucial for the competitiveness of the steel companies as well as our opinions in respect of related issues..
