Research and education
The Department of Research and Education is active within two main areas, on the one hand joint R&D within steel and metallurgy which is directly funded by the parties concerned and, on the other hand, joint industry technical issues that are financed via Jernkontoret’s own budget.
R&D activities are carried on within technical areas. The research takes place in close co-operation with the Nordic steel companies and with associated companies and institutions. It is through this department that Sweden also participates in the joint European steel research. Joint research matters are monitored by councils that work together with the aforementioned technical areas.
This department supports the steel industry in its long-term provision of competence and skills and looks after its interests in matters relating to schools and universities. The department also lobbies ministries, public authorities and other sources of research funding so as to guarantee long-term financing of steel research.
Jernkontoret also has a number of doctoral candidate employees who are engaged in steel research at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and at Dalarna University.
