Energy and environment
The Department of Energy and Environment monitors and safeguards the industry’s interests in respect of energy, climate and environmental issues as well as associated taxation and duty systems, both nationally and internationally.
Jernkontoret is an important consultation body to which proposed measures concerning energy and the environment are referred. Within the EU, Jernkontoret works to achieve its goals in the first place through Eurofer (European Confederation or Iron and Steel Industries) but also through direct contacts, above all with the Swedish members of the EU parliament.
The joint industry monitoring of energy and environmental issues takes place with the assistance of different councils that also initiate joint industry research and development projects which are then run by the department. Collaboration also takes place with operations in Jernkontoret’s other technical areas.
The department maintains contacts and collaborates with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and other organisations representing the interests of industry. It participates in reference and working groups at the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Finance and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The department is also active in working groups within the World Steel Association.
The department compiles and disseminates relevant information within its area.
